Prepare for your next fictional crime obsession because Pip is officially on the case!

The BBC adaptation of Holly Jackson’s beloved YA mystery series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will premiere on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Ireland this July. According to Tudum, the series will also stream on Netflix in the US and Canada “later this year.”

The series follows Wednesday star Emma Myers’ sharp-witted and strong-willed teenage detective, Pip Fitz-Amobi, as she unearths new clues in a local murder case.

Netflix revealed the official synopsis for the series will pick up 5 years after “a murder-suicide shook” her small town of Fairview.

“Popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. At least, that’s what everyone believes, including the police. Case closed, right? But Pip Fitz-Amobi, now a high school senior herself, sees how the gruesome murder still has a grip on her hometown, and she thinks there’s more to the story. “

“Pip begins an investigation of her own as she looks into the case for her senior project, determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. But if Sal didn’t do it, that means a murderer is still out there — and Pip herself may now be in danger.”

Zain Iqbal will play Ravi Singhm, Sal’s brother and Pip’s closest confidant in her investigation. The Ward family will include Ghosts’ Mathew Baynton as Pip’s English teacher, Elliot Ward, Yasmin Al-Khudhairi as Naomi Ward, and Asha Banks as Cara Ward. India Lillie Davies plays the mysterious murder victim Andie Bell, with Rahul Pattni cast as her boyfriend, Sal Singh.

Rounding out the cast is Henry Ashton as Max Hastings, Carla Woodcock as Becca Bell, Jessica Webber as Nat Da Silva, Georgia Aaron as Emma Hutton, Jude Morgan-Collie as Connor Reynolds, Raiko Gohara as Zach Chen, and Yali Topol Margalith as Lauren Gibson.

The TV show, adapted by Poppy Cogan and directed by Dolly Wells, was first announced in September 2022, with filming concluding in August 2023. Season 1 will consist of six 45-minute episodes covering the events of the first novel. According to BBC, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was filmed in the South West of England.

Author Holly Jackson told Netflix viewers can expect “laugh-out-loud moments from all the teenage antics, but also all the pulse-pounding twists you’d find in the darkest of thrillers.” She also promises lots of PipRavi moments brought to life from the books, while joking that many fans will be “watching behind a cushion, cursing my name.”

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is the first book in Jackson’s teen crime series, followed by Good Girl, Bad Blood, As Good As Dead, and the prequel Kill Joy. For readers hoping to dive into this bestselling mystery, beware one thing. The series has two versions, the original books set in the UK and then the books adapted for American readers. BBC will adapt the UK novels, however, Netflix’s synophisis suggests the series could still take a page out of the American copy.
